I crept along the roof of the warehouse, casting a glance back at Nate.
He wore dark attire tonight, and the half-moon revealed his side-swept brown hair and sexy stubble. God, he was a sight for sore eyes.
If we weren’t on a hunt, I’d be wanting to jump him right now.
‘Focus on the task, gorgeous.’ Nate chuckled into my mind.
‘I can multitask,’ I sent back.
‘Have we got eyes on him?’ Damien asked mentally, forcing me to focus. I could hear his slight annoyance with me. Stuff him. I knew we had a job to do, but I could ogle my mates too.
I was a badass kitsune. Jeez.
‘Not yet,’ I answered.
‘You need to jump to the next roof, love. He’ll be down below you then,’ Tristan’s smooth voice filled my mind.
I nodded back at Nate, who gave me a toothy grin as we moved along the rooftop in complete silence.
Tristan had scouted the area with a demon blade first, discovering where the supes were hiding to make our lives a little easier.
I reached up under my leather jacket on my back to find my kitsune blade sheathed. I brushed the hilt of it with my fingers, energy rippling through me from the weapon.
‘We need him alive, remember?’ Leon’s gentle voice slipped into my mind.
‘I know. But he might not be alone. Orders are to only bring him in. No one else,’ I shot back with a smirk. I could use a good fight.
The Council had learned he was meeting with other supes tonight, others deemed dangerous. We were to eliminate them as we saw fit. I wasn’t sure if that’d increase our bounty gain though.
We’d done a few bounty hunts together in the past few weeks, and I wouldn’t lie—I loved it. Some we killed, and others we caught. Working together was making it much too easy though. We were unstoppable as a team.
‘Don’t get cocky, that’s when things go wrong,’ Damien growled.
I rolled my eyes in response. I was also on task once we got to it.
I drew in a deep breath, tasting the dank air of the warehouse district. The night air was thick with residue from the afternoon rain, and I let the coolness of it reach into my lungs to cool me down. My blood was burning as I itched for a proper fight.
I carefully stepped over a puddle, alerting Nate to it mentally. We had to watch our footing up here, no need for one of us to take a fall and ruin this hunt.
I glanced at the gap between the warehouse I was atop and the one I needed to be on.
Quite a big gap. No human could make that jump.
But nothing I couldn’t handle.
